Re-inventing Business Model Through “Design Thinking”
Through Design thinking, you can Re-invent any business model. In design thinking, Design thinking is solution-focused and action-oriented. It involves both analysis and imagination…
What is your expression if you see a good design of a product which you want to purchase? Certainly, a kind of ‘Wow!’ expression, because that design made the product more desirable and more appealing. In designing a product designer also work on how it can be applied to system, procedures, and what customer would experience at last.
What is Design Thinking?
On average in a human mind 60000 thoughts come in a single day. Out of this how many thoughts are useful? In design thinking, we trained our thoughts in a specific manner to get the solution to a problem, so design thinking is solution-focused and action-oriented. It involves both analysis and imagination.
Why Design Thinking?
Design thinking is a framework for addressing complex human-centered challenges and making the best possible decisions. It is very helpful to meet the complex societal challenges like health, education food water, migration of daily wagers and also solving a problem that is affecting diverse stakeholders. It is also helpful when businesses facing problems due to shifting markets and changing behaviors of consumers. So through design thinking, we need to redefine value and reinvent the business model. In design thinking focus of innovation has shifted from product-centric to customer-centric and marketing to user experience-centric.
Design Thinking: A 5 Stage Process
Empathy: Empathy means a better understanding of the customer's needs. It is a human-centered design process like design thinking.
2. Defining- You define the problem with a human-centered approach and build a blueprint for the next phase
3. Ideate -Produce ideas and start generating concepts for potential solutions.
4. Prototype: If you have to design the model then first make a prototype. With the help of a prototype, you understand exactly how users will interact with a product and also experience with solutions.
4. Test/Validate The testing phase allows you to form a deeper understanding of the users and their interactions with the prototype. It tells about user behavior, feedback, and reactions to the overall design. (and based on user feedback you can validate or discard ideas)
Design thinking is a combination of what is desirable from the human point of view and what is technologically feasible and economically viable. So model or prototype which is created put to series of testing and after that process of implementation is done.
Here, it is worthwhile to know how do design thinkers think.
Six thinking hats frame
In design thinking, one should know about the thinking hats frame. These colored hats are metaphors depicting various states of mind and also representing certain types of thinking. These six thinking hats provide more complete and comprehensive segregation of the types of thinking.
White Hat
Information: consider only information that is available, what are the facts? Focus on data. It analyzes past trends. It fills the gaps in our knowledge, before taking the decision.
Red Hat
Emotions: intuitive reactions or expressions of feelings. More reactive than active, the person wearing a red hat relates with people emotionally and tries to overwhelm the logic of others using the same tool
Black Hat
Judgment: logic applied to identification of mistakes, looking for a mismatch it focuses on drawbacks or risks associated with the subject or issue. However, focus on what might fail, and what may not work — thus take action before it strikes
Yellow Hat
Positive view: logic applied to the identification of opportunities, looking for harmony, and an optimistic assessment of the situation. This is the best situation and gives space to work more freely and without fear of making mistakes.
Green Hat
Creativity: statements of provocation and investigation, hearing what an idea is about.+ve and innovative thoughts novel contributions for solving the issue.
Blue Hat
Thinking: thinking about thinking. Organized thinking and operational control. Essential for managerial thinking.
What are the Success factors of Design Thinking
Design thinking is a combination of what is desirable from a human point of view and what is technologically feasible and economically viable. Prototypes that are put to test on the above criteria now find the harmonious balance among three criteria.
Here are the main success factors:
1. Leadership: Design thinking initiatives get inked with strategic goals. Provide direction, resources, and commitment to your team.
2. People: Build up an internal design thinking community where best practices are shared.
3. Process: Use the generic design thinking framework, but evolve the method and tools to support your objectives.
4. Environment: Develop and create a collaborative workspace for their creativity. So design thinker co-innovate with your customers and partners.
Design thinking applications

Information Technology
Any product which is developed by the IT experts has to go for several trials. So developers first brainstorm on the possible ideas for solving the given problems.
Education
With time, the education sector has changed, now students become stakeholders. Their comfort is of utmost importance. Design thinking is applied to the feedback received from the students on the requirements, goals, and challenges they are facing in the classroom.
Health-care
Design thinking can be used in health care industries to know how to bring quality health-care for the people at a low cost. How to reduce burnout problems of nurses, or any kind of inefficiency in the system is also addressed.
